Founded in 1968 in Carros close to Nice by veterinarian Pierre-Richard Dick, Virbac is dedicated exclusively to animal health. The company ranks today as the 8th largest veterinarian pharmaceutical group worldwide. Its wide range of vaccines and medicines are used in the prevention and treatment of the main pathologies for both companion and food-producing animals.
Over the last forty years Virbac has become the world's first independent laboratory dedicated to animal health and a recognised expert in the sector, offering products and services that combine quality, effectiveness and convenience for care providers (veterinarians and animal owners).
Present in more than 100 countries the company has around 2900 employees. Quoted on the Paris Stock Exchange since 1985 Virbac has remained a family company, not only as regards its shareholding but also through its management principles, its culture and its company values.
Virbac is firstly involved alongside Jean-Pierre Dick. Being trained as a veterinarian, he shares the values and culture of the company, which he is now successfully deploying in the sailing world: a professional approach, real team spirit and a strong sense of organisation. This project also enables Virbac to strengthen the sustainable partnership relations it maintains with its key customers. Elected "vet of the year" for 2004, Jean-Pierre Dick continues to raise the profile of the veterinary profession, which is broadly associated with adventure. Furthermore, through media coverage, he is contributing to developing the reputation of the company and the brand.
An excellent boat racer, at the highest level for 15 years, winner of the Tour de France à la voile in 2001, Jean-Pierre Dick sails among the best skippers of the 60-foot circuit. Holder of two consecutive titles in the Transat Jacques Vabre (Le Havre-Bahia) in 2003 and 2005, he also snagged a commendable 6th place during the last Vendée Globe. Latest event to date: victory at the beginning of 2008 in the first Barcelona World Race (non-stop round-the-world for crews of two).
